Delaware, OH --- Solveig’s Breeders’ Dontyouforgetit (Yannick Gingras) took the early lead, yielded to cover at the quarter pole, retook at the half-mile pole and cruised to an easy, world record, 1:55.3 victory in Thursday’s (Sept. 20) $59,150 Standardbred for 2-year-old trotting colts and geldings at the Delaware County Fair.
USTA/Mark Hall photo Dontyouforgetit cruised to a world record, 1:55.3 win in the Standardbred for 2-year-old trotting colts & geldings at Delaware, Ohio on Thursday.
The diminutive son of Cantab Hall and the Yankee Glide mare Solveig, bred by his owners (Christina Takter, et al), won by 17-3/4 lengths and defeated Insider Access and Theatrical Session (Dave Palone) in the process.
Dontyouforgetit is once beaten in seven starts; his lone loss came when he made a lapped-on break at Pocono Downs, four starts back, in a Pennsylvania Sire Stakes. Since then, he won the $200,000 Pennsylvania Sire Stakes Final on Sept. 7 at The Meadows.
Trainer Jimmy Takter said that he did not know from the start how talented this colt was.
"No. I did not," said Takter. "He was so small. But he was so small so my expectations for him were not that big, but I think he could challenge anyone right now. The Wellwood was up in Canada last week and I think he would have been right with them."
Takter also commented about the colt's only loss.
"Well, actually I think it was a judgment call (being placed second for violating the breaking rule). He was a little past the line when he saw the light and got scared, so in my mind he's undefeated.
"I think the Breeders Crown will be a challenge for him and he will race the second week down in Lexington."
