Thursday, April 17, 2014 - by Tim Second

The Big Horse Handicapper provides a weekly handicapping column to the USTA covering races on Friday and Saturday. The USTA has given the Big Horse Handicapper a $100 mythical bankroll each week for wagering.

This weekend our plays will focus on Yonkers Raceway on Friday night and The Meadowlands on both Friday and Saturday.  On Saturday, the Meadowlands will feature the $63,000 Whata Baron Final for Horse and Gelding pacers and also the $55,800 Artistic Vision Final for Filly and Mare pacers.

Last weekend we cashed three of our six plays returning $112 from our $100 mythical bankroll leaving us with a small profit for the weekend.

Heading into weekend #77 we have wagered $7,521 and have cashed for $6,069.

Good Luck Everyone!

Big Horse Selections for Friday and Saturday, April 18-19

Friday, April 18

Meadowlands Race #1
#9 Attainable (7-2) is making his first lifetime start after scoring a big qualifier victory last time out.  He trotted a last half mile in :58.2 and looks primed for a big effort in here.  We will be using him on top with several others in the Daily Double.

Race #2  Second Half of the Daily Double
#2 Investor Volo (5-2) is the logical choice just missing last time and winning two of his last four races.  #5 Acadia As (3-1) upset Investor Volo last time out with a neck victory at 16-1. She will be much shorter here.  #6 Walk The Walk (6-1) was heavily favored last time and lost all chance with breaks early, he will look to rebound here.

The Play:  $10 Daily Double 9-2  and a $5 Daily Double 9/56  Cost: $20

Yonkers Race#4
#4 Scandalous Hanover (6-1) has been very sharp in her last two races and blazed home in :26.4 last time at the Meadowlands.  She draws inside, has speed and can also come from just off the pace.  She was an 11-time winner last time.

The Play:  $10 to win and place #4   Cost:  $20

Yonkers Race #11
#4 Somwheroverarainbow (8-5) Has been remarkable all year long having three wins and a second from her four races.  She overcame trouble, breaking at the start and racing huge to be second last time out.  #1 and #1A seem to be a powerful entry for PJ Fraley, and combined have earned over $3.5 Million in career earnings.

The Play:  $1 Trifecta 14/14/all  and a $1 Trifecta 4/1/all  Cost:  $15

Saturday, April 19th
Meadowlands Race #6  **Whata Baron Final**
#7 Wake Up Peter (9-5) has been strong in his last three races and has now won 6 of his 8 starts this year.  He comes in off a lifetime best effort last time out and has two straight victories to his credit.  #3 Captive Audience (6-5) is the logical choice winning three straight and drawing inside.  #9 Alexa’s Jackpot (5-1) has been racing well and has a big late closing kick.

The Play:  $1 Trifecta 7/39/all  and  $1 Trifecta  7/all/39  Cost:  $32

Meadowlands Race #11 ** Artistic Vision Final**
#1 American In Paris (3-5) has put together six straight victories and continues to dominate.  She will be a short price, but looks tough to beat.  #4 Road Bet (5-1) wasn’t far off last time against our top choice and has been on the board in all 7 of her starts this year.

The Play:  $10 Exacta  1-4  and a $3 Trifecta 1-4-2  Cost:  $13
