Big Horse Selections for Friday, March 28 and Saturday, March 29
Friday, March 28, 2014 - by Tim Second

The Big Horse Handicapper provides a weekly handicapping column to the USTA covering races on Friday and Saturday. The USTA has given the Big Horse Handicapper a $100 mythical bankroll each week for wagering.

This weekend we will focus our plays at both Yonkers Raceway and The Meadowlands.  We should be in for a great weekend of action.  Yonkers on Friday hosts the 2nd leg of the Blue Chip Matchmaker Series.  On Saturday night the Meadowlands hosts the Finals of the Clyde Hirt Series and the Horse and Groom.

Friday’s Yonkers Program has four divisions of the 2nd leg of the Blue Chip Matchmaker.  This series is made up of the best Filly and Mare Free for All Pacers our country has to offer.  It should make for a very fast and highly competitive final.

Last weekend wasn’t bad, we cashed for $167 from our $100 mythical bankroll.  Heading into weekend #74 we have wagered $7,221 and have cashed for $5,752.

Good luck everyone!

Big Horse Selections for Friday, March 28 and Saturday, March 29

Friday, March 28

Yonkers Race #4  **
Blue Chip Matchmaker 2nd leg, 1st division**
#3 Let’s Go Higher (6-1) draws inside and looks to be well placed in one of the softer divisions of this Blue Chip Matchmaker Series.  She finished with pace last time out to Yagonnakissmeornot who is one of the favorites in this Series.  She loves to win as she finished first in 14 of her 37 races last year and must be considered as a live longshot in this race.

The Play:  $15 to win #3  Cost:  $15

Yonkers Race #6
#5 Little Santamonica (8-1) gets Tim Tetrick after two sharp victories at Saratoga Raceway.  This horse has raced very well in the past at Yonkers and made $106,000 last year.  She has early speed and also has come from off the pace in the past.  She too could be a longshot with a big chance in this race.

The Play:  $10 to win and place #5 Cost:  $20

Meadowlands Race #7
#5 Splitsville (9-2) has put together two solid efforts in the C-1 and C-2 class the last two races showing early speed and finishing well.  He seems to be improving in each of his starts in this barn and looks to be in a spot once again to showcase his early speed.

The Play:  $10 to win and place #5  Cost:  $20

Saturday, March 29

Meadowlands Race #7  **Clyde Hirt Stake Final**
#2 Avatartist (5-2) has won two straight races and looks for a series sweep as he draws inside for the final.  He overcame post 8 in each of his last two races.  Last time out he lacked racing room until mid-stretch where he came through to a nose victory.  #6 Alexa’s Jackpot (9-2) raced big last time out exploding to just get nipped at the finish.  He was the betting choice last time out and should again be a prime contender.  #4 CC Heet Seeker (10-1) just missed to Wake Up Peter last time from post 8 and now draws inside with speed.

The Play: $1 Trifecta 46/2/all  and a $3 Exacta Box 2-4  and  2-6  Cost:  $28

Meadowlands Race #11 **Horse And Groom Final**
#6 Bambino Glide (8-5) is the sharpest of the group and looks to be the best as he tries to sweep the series in here.  He loves the front and trotted to a 1:52.2 victory last time out.  #3 March Awareness (15-1) has been a fringe player in his last two races and has been finishing well.  He gets the red hot Scott Zeron driving.  #7 Hldontghttoyurdrms(3-1) raced better last time, but couldn’t handle the eventual winner, our top pick in here.  He has speed and should also be a main contender here.

The Play:  $10 Exacta 6-7  and a  $7 Exacta 6-3   Cost:  $17
