Big Horse Selections for Friday, March 7 and Saturday, March 8
Friday, March 7, 2014 - by Tim Second

The Big Horse Handicapper provides a weekly handicapping column to the USTA covering races on Friday and Saturday. The USTA has given the Big Horse Handicapper a $100 mythical bankroll each week for wagering.

This weekend we will focus our plays exclusively at the Meadowlands.  We will also be looking at the Charles Singer Memorial Trot for three and 4-year-olds on Saturday night with a purse of $53,200.

We are looking forward to the many stake races that will be coming up in future weeks.  Be sure to check out all the Stakes action in the Feature Races page located in the racing tab at ustrotting.com.

Last weekend we cashed for $61 of our $100 mythical bankroll.  We have been in a slump the last couple of weekends and have had bad luck with horses breaking stride. This weekend maybe we can turn things around and get over the hump on our way to a profitable weekend.

Heading into weekend #71 we have wagered $6,921 and have cashed $5,376.

Good Luck Everyone.

Big Horse Selections for Friday, March 7 and Saturday, March 8

Friday, March 7

Meadowlands Race #1
#7 Splitsville (5-1) is dropping in class after making his first start in the Rob Harmon barn last time out.  He closed in a :29:2 last quarter in a 1:54.2 mile.  He could be even better here and is a major contender.

$2 Exacta 7/124568  and  $14 to win #7   Cost:  $26

Meadowlands Race #3
#7 Sweet Charity (7-2) was outstanding in her prep last time out closing more than 12 lengths and boasting a :26.4 last quarter.  She makes only her second career start but faces mostly 3-year-old competition here.  Expect a big effort.

$1 Trifecta 7/38/13468910  and  $1 Trifecta 7/13468910/38  Cost:  $24

Meadowlands Race #6
#9 Jurgen Hanover (4-1) trotted a fast :27.4 last quarter in his qualifier last time out when adding trotting hopples.  He was a 7-time winner in 9 starts last year.  He is fast enough to overcome this outside spot, and he gets David Miller who is exceptional with troubled trotters.

The Play:  $1 Trifecta 9/16/all  and a $2 Exacta 9/245    Cost:  $20

Saturday, March 8

Meadowlands Race #6  **$53,200 Charles Singer Memorial**

#2 Perfect Alliance (4-5) has been brilliant in both eliminations and is perfect so far this season winning all four of her races.  She is the one to beat.  #4 Ray Hall (6-1) has been the runner-up to our choice in each of his last two races from the pocket and from off the pace.  Either way he can trot a strong last quarter and should again be in the hunt.

The Play:  $10 Exacta 2-4  Cost:  $10

Meadowlands Race #8
#6 Ima Giggity Fool (4-1) has been very good in each of his last six starts and continues to flash :26 last quarters.  He has a mark of 1:50 here at the Meadowlands and has the speed to get position once again.  He was in the money in 20 of 31 starts last year.

The Play: $10 to win and place #6  Cost:  $20
