Friday, February 7, 2014 - by Tim Second

The Big Horse Handicapper provides a weekly handicapping column to the USTA covering races on Friday and Saturday. The USTA has given the Big Horse Handicapper a $100 mythical bankroll each week for wagering.

It is opening weekend at Miami Valley Gaming and Raceway in Lebanon Ohio. It is a brand new facility featuring a 5/8 mile racetrack.  An outstanding driving colony is scheduled to be on hand this weekend including, Hall of Famer Dave Palone, Tony Hall, Eric Goodell, Dan Noble, Greg Grismore, Tyler Smith, Jim Pantaleano and 2013 dash winning driver Ronnie Wrenn Jr, just to name a few.

We will be focusing our weekend’s plays at The Meadowlands and Yonkers both Friday and Saturday night and we will also include a race from Miami Valley Raceway on Saturday.

Last weekend we were shut out cashing $0 from our $100 mythical bankroll, we have no where to go but up this weekend as move on to another exciting weekend of action!

Heading into weekend #67 we have wagered $6,551 and have cashed for $5,153.

Good Luck Everyone!

Big Horse Selections for Friday, February 7 and Saturday, February 8

Meadowlands Race #1
#8 Doo Wee Rusty (2-1) has put together two straight victories, one at Yonkers last time and the other here at Meadowlands against similar.  She was powerful coming from off the pace in her last two races and is the one to beat in here.  #7 The Perfect Dream (6-1) has been very sharp in her last two races and just missed last time out.

The Play:  $1 Trifecta 8/7/all  and  8/all/7  Cost:  $16

Meadowlands Race #6
#9 So Nice (3-1) is in razor sharp form since returning from her 2-month break in  early November.  She was an easy winner at Yonkers last time, and just missed at the Meadowlands in her start prior.  She made $100,000 in just 12 starts last year and despite her poor post draw she should be a major factor in here.  #5 Best Boss (4-1) just needs to be put into contention turning for home for her to unleash her deadly stretch kick.  She was on the board in 10 of her 21 races last year and can fly in the last quarter mile.

The Play:  $1 Trifecta 9/5/all  and  9/all/5  and $8 to win and place #9  Cost:  $30

Yonkers Raceway Race #8
#1 Likeabatoutahell (6-1) is the lone millionaire trotter in the field that raced well last time out despite having drawn post 8.  He closed in a :28:2 last quarter and should be much closer with his rail draw today.  He was just a neck shy of the likely favorite #8 Dw’s NY Yank three starts back and is worth a long look in here.

The Play:  $10 to win #1   Cost:  $10

Saturday, February 8

Meadowlands Race#3
#6 McRusty (7-2) had little chance last time when drawing post 7 at Yonkers, but he still raced well closing into the leaders through the stretch.  He has done his best racing over the bigger Meadowlands racetrack and should be primed for a big effort here.

The Play:  $10 to win #6    Cost:  $10

Meadowlands Race #6
#5 Easy Again (9-2) Is another who was up against it last time when drawing post 8 at Yonkers, but prior to that he had strung together three straight victories.  His last quarter speed has been superior at the Meadows and he deserves a shot against this highly competitive group.

The Play:  $3 Exacta 5-4,  5-7,  and  5-8   $1 Exacta  5/136    Cost $12

Yonkers Raceway Race #5
We are going to try a bomb in here, #7 The Pokester (12-1).  The Pokester finished second two starts back with Carlson driving and has been the runner-up in this class before with an outside post.  He made $91,000 in 41 starts last year with 5 victories.  He will need a lot of luck, but the price will be right and he could be worth a couple of bucks in here.

The Play:  $4 to win and place #7   Cost:  $8

Miami Valley Raceway Race #10
#7 Visable Gold (5-2) looks to be the one after being a perfect 2 for 2 this year and 12 for 18 last year.  He comes off a wire to wire victory at the Meadows from post 9 and is the one to beat.  #4 War Dancer (12-1) always races well on the Ohio Circuit, and has early speed.  He has raced well on the bigger tracks before and although he is in tough for the win, he certainly could be part of the exotics and could be a nice price at the windows.

The Play:  $1 Trifecta 7/4/all and  7/all/4  and a $1 Trifecta Key 7/24   and  7/45     Cost:  $14
