The Big Horse Handicapper provides a weekly handicapping column to the USTA covering races on Friday and Saturday. The USTA has given the Big Horse Handicapper a $100 mythical bankroll each week for wagering.
Grand Circuit Stakes Action continues this weekend with The Bluegrass Series at the Red Mile on Friday night, and then on Saturday the Yonkers Program will feature “Night of Champions” with nearly $2 Million in purses! It is sure to be another outstanding weekend of harness racing!
Be sure to take advantage of the USTA strategic wagering program which offers plenty of value with its guaranteed pools which will include the Pick 4 at The Red Mile this Friday night beginning in race 6 with a $10,000 Guaranteed pool.
Last weekend we were unable to find the winners circle, of our five selections we had 1 second, 3 thirds and a fourth place finish leaving us with only $31 of our $99 mythical bankroll last weekend. Heading into weekend #48 we have wagered $4,678 and have cashed for $3270.
Good Luck Everyone.
Big Horse Selections for Friday, September 27th and Saturday, September 28th
Friday, September 27th
The Red Mile Race #8 ** $85,900 Bluegrass Series #39, 2-year-old filly pace**
#8 Precocious Beauty (8-5) just keeps on impressing as she continues to dominate 2-year-old filly pacers in very handy style. She brings her four race win streak to Lexington and is the one to beat. #1 Southwind Silence (9-2) has now won three straight for team Burke and has yet to miss the board in 9 starts this year.
The Play: $10 Exacta 8-1 Cost: $10
The Red Mile Race #9 **$86,900 Bluegrass Series #39, 2-year-old filly pace**
#10 She’s Da Bomb (5-2) suffered her only loss two starts back when she encountered a jammed up pace early in the mile, overcoming that trouble to find room late only to hook wheels with another rival eliminating her chances. Last time out she rebounded nicely and drew off in the stretch to an easy victory. She draws a tough post, but she is loaded with talent and is the one to beat. #3 All Star Rating (6-1) returned from a three month layoff last time out finish second after brushing to the lead from post 7 to finish a game second at Hoosier Park. She should benefit from that race and could be primed for a big performance here.
The Play: $1 Trifecta 10/4/all and $1 Trifecta 10/all/4 Cost: $16
The Red Mile Race #10 **$90,100 Bluegrass Series #39, 2-year-old colt and gelding trot**
#3 Southwind Spirit (9-5) Drew clear in the American National last time out at Balmoral Park to stretch out to an 11 length score. He is loaded with speed and draws the perfect post. #4 Epic Ranger (15-1) got the driver change to Corey Callahan last time out on Little Brown Jug day and raced huge, actually taking the lead from a heavy 2-5 favorite before being outfought in the stretch. He finished a game second that day and a repeat effort could put him on the ticket in here.
The Play: $2 Trifecta 3/4/all and a $1 Trifecta 3/all/4 Cost: $15
The Red Mile Race #11 **Bluegrass Series #39, 2-year-old filly pacers**
#4 Gallie Bythe Beach (2-1) was outfought through the stretch as the heavy 1-2 favorite last time out at Harrah’s Philadelphia, but she has been sensational all year and has been in the money on all 8 of her starts so far. She draws inside and is the one to beat. #5 Uffizi Hanover (10-1) picked up David Miller for the first time last time out and just missed at Hoosier Park in the Kentuckiana series. She has been showing very good speed and will try to upset in here.
The Play: $1 Trifecta 45/45/all Cost: $18
Saturday, September 28th
Yonkers Raceway Race #2 **$225,000 Night of Champions 2-year-old colt trot**
#5 Flyhawk El Durado (3-1) shared victory with #2 Credit Fashion as they both were dead heat winners last time out at Yonkers and these two look to square off once again in this race. I think #5 is a bit quicker off the gate so we will use him on top once again.
The Play: $2 Trifecta 5/2/1367 Cost: $8
Yonkers Raceway Race #3 **$225,000 Night of Champions 2-year-old filly trot**
#5 Maud Blue Chip (8-5) has now won four straight races on the New York circuit and continues to dominate her 2 year old class. #2 Crediama (10-1) got a great trip behind out top pick last time out and will likely look to do the same in here with her inside draw.
The Play: $2 Trifecta 5/2/all and $1 Trifecta 5/all/2 Cost: $15
Yonkers Raceway Race #5 **$225,000 Night of Champions 3-year-old filly trot**
#4 Bouncing Bax (3-1) battled outside most of the way last time out and still was a going away winner at Batavia last time out. She is just shy of $200,000 in earnings this year and is the one to beat. #1 Royal Malinda (6-1) draws inside where she can showcase her speed and likely get a great position with her post draw.
The Play: $10 Exacta 4-1 Cost: $10
Yonkers Raceway Race #8 **$225,000 Night of Champions 3-year-old filly pace**
#5 Summertime Lea (4-5) has been outstanding throughout her career in winning 16 of 20 lifetime races. She comes off three straight victories and will be heavily favored here. #2 Bettor Think Twice (10-1) Draws inside and will likely be looking to get away in the top two position. If she is able to follow the favorite she will have a big shot in the stretch.
The Play: $8 Exacta 5-2 Cost: $8
