The Big Horse Handicapper picks for Mar. 15 & Mar. 16
Friday, March 15, 2013 - by Tim Second

The Big Horse Handicapper provides a weekly handicapping column to the USTA covering races on Friday and Saturday.  The USTA has given the Big Horse Handicapper a $100 mythical bankroll each week for wagering.

This Saturday we are looking forward to the finals of the Aquarius and the Horse and Groom at The Meadowlands.  In the Aquarius Final it looks to be a great race between Warrawee Needy and Escape the News who each had a win in each of the Opening rounds.  I am going to stay away from this race in the selections due to the lack of value as both will be odds on in here, but I am going to give the edge to Escape the News.

In the Horse & Groom Final Quick Deal was outstanding last week as he rebounded to win going away in 1:52:1.  Modern Family has also been racing very well and it looks to be another great race.

Last weekend we turned a small profit as we cashed two of our 5 plays for the weekend returning $117.00 from our $100 bankroll.  We are now heading into week #20 with a grand total wagered of $1,874 and have cashed for $1,636.  Good Luck with your selections this weekend.

Meadowlands Race #3
#5 Tall Cotton (3-1) debuts for the Ron Burke connections after a very strong qualifier last Saturday. He closed home in :27:1 in the prep and was a 3-time $88,000 winner last year for his former connections.

The Play:  $10.00 to win and place #5   Cost:  $20.00

Meadowlands Race #5

#9 Melady’s Monet (4-1) was Miller’s choice over #1 and #8.  He closed strong last time out facing similar competition after a three month break.  He was a 7-time $68,000 winner last year and must overcome this outside post in here.

The Play:  $10.00 to win and place #9   Cost:  $20.00

Yonkers Race #8
#4 Moonlit Dragon (5-1) Closed well last time for Sears and now has just missed in this class in each of her last two races.  She was Sears’ choice in here over #6 and #7 and is closing in on a victory.

The Play:  $10.00 to win and place #4   Cost:  $20.00

Saturday, March 16th

Meadowlands Race #5

#2 Olde Time Hockey (5-2) Was never in it last time when he drew post 10, but was closing strong at the finish in a :26:4 last quarter. Now he draws inside and should be tough in here.

The Play:  $10.00 Exacta  2-4   and   2-7   Cost:  $20.00

Meadowlands Race #9

#10 Union Man Hanover (6-1) was full of pace at the finish when making his first start since July last time out. This was Tetrick’s choice of drives over the #2, #4, and #8 and he made $58,000 with just one victory in 6 starts last year.

The Play:  $10.00 to win and place #10   Cost:  $20.00
