The Big Horse Handicapper picks for Feb. 22 & Feb. 23
Friday, February 22, 2013 - by Tim Second

The Big Horse Handicapper provides a weekly handicapping column to the USTA covering races on Friday and Saturday.  The USTA has given the Big Horse Handicapper a $100 mythical bankroll each week for wagering.

Hello Big Horse Fans!  Another exciting weekend ahead as The Meadowlands hosts the Finals of the Exit 16W, The Winter Survivor Series, and also the Charles Singer Final on Saturday night.  The three finals combined go for purses of over $137,000.

Over the last couple of weekends the Big Horse Selections have been sort of stuck in neutral, we had a $5.00 loss two weekends ago, then last weekend we ended up $12.00 down for the weekend.  So of our $100 weekly bankroll we been selecting live horses and cashing tickets, we just need to have a little bit of luck with our exotic plays to go with our handicapping.

As we head into week #17 in our handicapping venture we have wagered $1,588 and have collected $1,367.  We look forward to another great weekend of racing and good luck to everyone.

Friday, February 22nd

Freehold Raceway Race #11

#7 Devine Filly (6-1) may have been overlooked by the morning line handicapper as she has been first or second in the last four races while facing similar $4,000 claiming competition.  In her last race she was very powerful in the last ½ mile and drew away late to beat similar.  She will have to overcome this post position, but with the right trip she is always very tough.

The Play:  $10.00 to win #7      Cost:  $10.00

The Meadowlands Race #2

#1 Terror High (9-2) has been improving in each of his three lifetime starts.  He finished a closing second last time out in the first leg of this series and again draws an inside post position.

The Play:  $10.00 to win and place #1   Cost:  $20.00

Yonkers Raceway Race #5

#1 Miss Annie J (3-1) looked very strong last time out when she beat a softer field as she went wire to wire.  She again draws inside and will be firing out again right from the start.

The Play:  $15.00 to win #1   Cost:  $15.00

Northville Downs Race #2

#6 Lil Be Dazzled (5-2) is facing much weaker competition than he has in the past several races.  He also picks up Ronnie Wrenn Jr. who has been dominating Northville Downs driver statistics and is also listed in the top 10 drivers by wins in the country.

#3 Beach Streaker (7-2) has good early speed and should be able to secure a very nice trip with the inside post.

The Play:  $1.00 Trifecta  6/3/all   and  6/all/3    Cost:  $14.00

Northville Downs Race #7

#5 Annabelle Rocks (5-2) is a very talented mare when she is right.  She has been facing much tougher in her recent starts and should be very tough with her class drop.

#3 Jestabrute (6-1) has drawn poorly in each of the last three races.  Now he draws inside where he may be able to show some early speed.

The Play:  $1.00 Trifecta  5/3/all   and   5/all/3   Cost:  $14.00

Saturday, February 23rd

Meadowlands Race #6 Exit 16W Final Purse:  $60,200

#4 Holdingallthecards (5-2) has been on a major roll right now as he has now won all six races this year.  He just managed to get up in the photograph the last two races, but still secured both victories.  #1 Papa Ray, and #2 year-old Cheyenne Rocky were also right there in the win photograph last time out.

The Play:  $1.00 Trifecta Part Wheel  4/1,2/1,2,3,6,7,8   Cost:  $10.00

Meadowlands Race #11   Winter Survivor Series Final Purse: $86,700

#1 Oil Magnet and #1A Killer Quakes (5-2) looks to be a very powerful entry in this Winter Survivor Series Final for trainer Ron Burke.  They both draw inside and should be very tough again in here,  #3 Stormin Rustler (12-1) is a longshot that has been on the ticket in each of the last two races and just needs to work out another trip to be part of the exotics.

The Play:  $1.00 Trifecta  1/3/all   and  1/all/3   Cost:  $14.00
