The Big Horse Handicapper provides a weekly handicapping column to the USTA covering races on Friday and Saturday. The USTA has given the Big Horse Handicapper a $100 mythical bankroll each week for wagering.
Hello Racing Fans!
Several great late closers will highlight this upcoming weekend at the Meadowlands. They include the 1st leg of the Charles Singer, Survivor late closer, Exit 16w and the Trendsetter Jr. Each of these Late Closers will include two legs and a final.
Also this weekend don’t miss your chance to qualify for the 2013 World Harness Handicapping Championship at the Meadowlands. Registration is open for this weekend’s qualifiers at horsetourneys.com. Registration is free and the winner of each contest earns berth ($1,000 value) into the Championship at the Meadowlands. The contest tracks this weekend are Northfield on Friday and Pompano Park on Saturday.
Next week one of the Handicapping legs is at the Big Horse’s home track Northville Downs and a special full card analysis will be available on this website for Friday, February 15th for Northville.
Last week we were unable to cash once again on our Trifecta plays. We did select Real Babe at the Meadowlands on top, but our other key horse King’s Cavalier was locked in and failed to complete our Trifecta plays.
At Northville last week we looked to be a sure winner on a nice Trifecta, we needed Song on Broadway to win for us to catch the Trifecta, but she was outkicked in the stretch by a 56-1 shot spoiling our trifecta and keying a $985 payout.
We did manage to catch a small exacta on Saturday night with No Bu at the Meadowlands to collect $14.00 and $4.00 in scratches to give us a total of $18.00, down $82 for last weekend.
So with any handicapping you definitely need some luck, in which we haven’t had over the last two weekends, but we will try again and look forward to more great racing in the sport that we love!
Heading into week #15 we have wagered $1,396 and have cashed for $1,192.
Friday, February 8th
Northfield Park, Race #2
#2 Matt’s Wolfey (7-2) was an easy winner last time out while facing similar competition. She has put together two big races in a row and draws the perfect post to be dangerous once again.
The Play: $10.00 to win and place #2 Cost: $20.00
Northfield Park, Race #4
#4 Lima Adore (9-2) meets a very weak group in this lower condition and should be able to stay close to the front throughout.
The Play: $5.00 to win and place #4 Cost: $10.00
Northville Downs, Race #8
#6 Grandkids Attack (3-1) could not have possible dreamed of a worst trip than he encountered last week at Northville. He was hopelessly blocked on the inside and had no chance to show his speed. He has paced in the 1:53 range in Toronto, he shows he gets around a half mile track as he paced 1:56 at London, and he will just need a trip to be very tough in this race.
The Play: $10.00 to win and place #6 and a $.50 cent tri 6/3/all and 6/all/3 Cost: $27.00
Saturday, February 9th
Freehold Raceway, Race #4
#5 Butn Your Shirt Ed (9-2) fits very well in this class. He has beaten weaker at Freehold before and has been third against tougher at Freehold. He is now in between classes and can close hard through the stretch. He just needs to stay in range to unleash his late kick.
The Play: $5.00 to win and play #5 Cost: $10.00
Meadowlands Race #2 First Leg of the Exit 16w
#8 Holdingallthecards (6-5) has been brilliant in the Clyde Hirt series as he swept the two legs and the final in convincing fashion. He is the one to beat. #4 Mr Dennis (7-2) has been solid in each of his last four races and should complete the exacta.
The Play: $10.00 exacta 8-4 Cost: $10.00
Meadowlands Race #5
#5 Vodka is Terror (4-1) is dropping in class and coming out of the tough Clyde Hirt series. He shows last quarters of :27 and should be firing again through the stretch.
The Play: $10.00 to win #5 Cost: $10.00
Meadowlands Race #6
#9 Oscar Oscar (4-1) beat a similar group last time out, but was disqualified for a pylon violation. He draws outside, but he is always tough and will look to make amends in this spot.
The Play: $5.00 to win #9 Cost: $5.00
