Melodies Major flew home to capture the fifth win of his career in Monday's New York Sire Stakes at Vernon Downs.
In the first division, Reigning Deo (Jim Morrill Jr.) hit the first quarter in :26.2 before favorite Major Blake (Jason Bartlett) took over to control the half in :55 and three-quarters in 1:23.2. Melodies Major, fifth after three-quarters in rein to Tyler Buter, came flying down the stretch to win in a lifetime best of 1:51.3 for owner Martin Scharf and trainer Mark Ford.

The Art Major-Hilarious colt captured the fifth win of his young career, all of which were New York Sire Stakes events. For Buter, the win with Melodies Major was the centerpiece of a driving hat trick.

In the second division, Hickfromfrenchlick and Ray Schnittker fired right to the front and easily won in gate-to-wire fashion, controlling fractions of :27.1, :56, 1:23 and 1:51.3. He held off a late charge from second-place finisher Chatelroll (Scott Zeron) to earn a lifetime mark.

Hickfromfrenchlick, a son of So Surreal and My Girls A Star, has now won four out of five races in his career.

Live racing returns to Vernon Downs on Friday (Sept. 7) at 6:10 p.m.
