The Terwilliger Memorial went off on Sunday (Sep 24) with four fields of 2017's toughest 3-year-old trotting colts and fillies competing for the title during Iowa's last race meet of the year. CR Blazin Beauty bested the boys in a track record breaking performance of 1:59.2.

“The Terwilliger family has been an awfully nice race horse family all through the years,” said Huffman, pleased to win this race honoring his fellow horseman.

Huffman raced with Terwilliger when Huffman first began training horses at Eldon, Iowa in 1962.

“He was a great guy,” said Huffman. “We had lots of races together over the years. He drove for us a long time.”

Huffman has since turned over training duties to his son Rick Huffman. The Huffman's raised CR Blazin Beauty, a Crazed filly out of a Muscle's Yankee mare. The filly has won eight of 12 starts in 2017, breaking two track records.

“She's an outstanding individual, one of the nicer fillies we've ever had,” said Huffman. “I think she's got great success ahead of her – we'll see what happens.”
