Columbus, OH --- Friday’s (Oct. 7)  Harness Racing Update reports that driver Ron Pierce, 60, has officially announced his retirement.

Pierce, who last drove at the Meadowlands on March 7, 2015, retires with 9,568 wins from 67,034 starts. His career earnings of $215,314,239 are second only to John Campbell.

In the story, Pierce told HRU’s Bob Heyden that his health has improved after multiple back surgeries and that he has found other interests away from racing.

“It was time. I feel great,” Pierce exclusively told Harness Racing Update this week.  “When I stopped, I had to have three surgeries in 2014 on my back and neck. Right now, I feel great. I’m better physically than when I was in my 30s. But I found that I enjoy doing other things, and having my time alone.”
