Plainville, MA --- For the second consecutive Monday a top class event at Plainridge Park Casino resulted in a track record, the difference being that this week it was on the trot rather than the pace.

Mambo Lindy, patiently handled by Jimmy Whittemore, eased past favored Georgina Corner in mid stretch to trot the mile in 1:53.3, tying stablemate Coco Lindy for the fastest trotting mile in the history of the Massachusetts track.

“I knew we were going at a pretty good clip but really didn’t know that we set a track record,” said Whittemore. “All I knew is that my horse trotted a helluva mile.”

The victory in the $15,000 Open event was the 10th win of Mambo Lindy’s career in just 15 lifetime starts. Last season the son of Donato Hanover established a track mark for 4-year-old trotters at Plainridge in his first year of racing.

Mambo Lindy is owned by Greathorse of Hampden, Mass., and is trained by Frank Antonacci. Afterwards, an excited Whittemore expressed his gratitude to Antonacci for giving him the mount.

“I’m really glad to have the opportunity to drive him,” said Whittemore. “He’s a real nice horse. A horse like that is fun to drive.”

Racing resumes at Plainridge Park Casino on Tuesday afternoon. During July and August Plainridge races at 4 p.m. every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
