Berlin, MD --- Maryland sired 2-year-olds finished off their August series on Sunday (Aug. 24) at Ocean Downs.

The 2-year-old colt and gelding trotters opened the night with the Ronald ‘Doc’ Banning Memorial going for a purse of $42,000. Doggone Slots (Doggone Yankee-Juanna Play Slots) sat third through the half when driver Roger Plante Jr. pulled and took the lead from Here I Am (Cam's Rocket).

It was a three horse race down the stretch with Doggone Slots winning by a length over Jay Boy (Tsunami) and Here I Am held on for third. The time for the mile was 2:01.3.

Thomas Morris Jr. trains and co-owns the winner with Gregg Morris. This colt winning was a fitting tribute to Doc Banning since he was the breeder and owner of the second dam, I Juanna Win.

The Hubert Jackson Memorial for filly pacers was next on the card. The Winbak Farm owned Jodi’s Sweety (JK Outlaw-Queen Jodi) pulled an upset, breaking the three-race win streak of Helaine’s Firebird (Allie’s Western), winning by a head in 2:02.1. Jeff Fout trains and drove the filly.

In another upset, Toms Tornado (Cam's Rocket-Nuclear Folks) won in 1:56.4, breaking stablemate Toms Typhoon (Cam's Rocket) five race win streak in the W.W. ‘Pete‘ Shaw Memorial. Thomas Cooke owns both colts and Roger Hans trains. Jonathan Roberts was in the bike.

There was no surprise in the Charles Keller Memorial when Jeff Fout went to the front and never looked back with Renegade Starlet (CR Renegade-Worthy Starlet), extending her win streak to three. Tui Stone trains the filly for the Serendipity Stable, with the time of the mile being 2:05.4.

The Maryland Sire Stakes for 2-year-olds will finish the season with a series on Sept. 23 and Sept. 30 at Rosecroft Raceway.
