Royal Reception was a narrow winner in the Saratoga feature.

The Jackie Rousse-trained 3-year-old has been consistent and came into Thursday’s race hitting the board in 12 of 17 lifetime tries. Frank Coppola Jr. piloted Royal Reception and moved the morning line favorite out early and positioned him in the pocket.

Pulling out at the top of the stretch, Royal Reception had to withstand a stretch challenge from rival Meetyouatmidnight (Wally Hennessey). Hanging on to win by a head, Royal Reception recorded his third lifetime victory and Thursday's win came in a career best 1:55.1. The freshman pacer returned $8.10 to win.

Live racing continues on Friday night at Saratoga with first post time switching to 7:05 p.m. for the remainder of the summer.
