Catskill Steve offers his picks for the $25,000 Pick-4 at Balmoral Park on July 13 part of the U.S. Trotting Association Strategic Wagering Program.

Balmoral Park  Pick-4, Races 7-10, Sunday, July 13, 2014

 $1 play: 178/35/36/3= $12

Race 7: (7) Just By Design seems to be rounding into top form wiring similar group last time following a game overland trip from 10-hole two back. The 6-year-old has a class edge on these and figures to be tough once again. I don't know how (8) Pierce My Heart will adjust to the big track but judging from her sometime solid middle half brushes over the half-miler may go well at a price. (1) Lima Calliope and (1A) Helen's Place Girl haven't done much in recent but both have defeated better at some time in their careers and either are capable of big miles on best.

Race 8: (3) Our Miss Lily drops and gets key driver change. (5) Kimberly R had good pace finishing against tougher. Drops to a level she raced well at earlier in the year and looks like the one to beat.

Race 9:  (6) Ants Iner Pants had strong trot finishing from tough spot in Balmoral return and second start in six weeks, looks set now. (3) I'll Tell You What seems to have taken to the mile track powering home full of trot from tough spot two back, then making a sharp :28 third quarter brush to the top and holding well to miss by two lengths. The nine-year-old has 50 career wins and has hit the board in 134 of his 221 career starts and you don't earn numbers like that without having plenty of ability.

Race 10: To hold costs down I'll try to bring (3) Jitterbug Jack home as a single in final leg. This one had a strong rally starting from the second tier at Maywood last time pacing a :57.4 final half to nail place. Two back had no shot from 8-hole at Maywood and prior tries at Balmoral were a bold rally from far back and a lifetime best 1:53 ground saving score in early June. Looks as good as any in here and hopefully can roll by late.

Good Luck!
