Balmoral Park Pick-4, Races 10-13, Saturday, July 12, 2014
$1 play: 38/14/410/3456 = $32
Race 10: (3) Big Brad has always promised more than he has delivered but the 4-year-old equalled a lifetime best two back then chased the top older pacers in Chicago from tough spot in 1:51.2 mile over Maywood half-miler in latest. Moves inside and can handle this level on best. (8) Holdingallthecards was a strong second against Invitational company in last following a tough uncovered try also against the Invitational ranks two back. Draws 8-hole but has a class edge on these and looms the one to beat.
Race 11: (4) State Street Liz blasted to the top in 27.4, was used hard in hot pace, chased a 27.2 third quarter and gave way grudgingly in solid mile. Mare is at the top of her game right now. (1) Sleazy Does It never got into the action from tough spot but still paced a 55.4 final half. Two back finished alertly with 27.1 final quarter. Likely to get ground saving trip from this spot and is capable of blowing by late.
Race 12: (4) Extravagant Art was parked from 7-hole before getting a tuck past quarter, chased a 55.2 middle half and finished alertly with 27.2 final panel. The 4-year-old is winless from 13 starts on the year but has been pacing consistently faster than these in recent and finds a nice spot. (10) Our Dragon King made a 26.4 second quarter brush to the top and just failed to hold off a good Tink And Tiger in 1:50.4 mile. Two back launched a wicked 1:21.3 final three quarters from difficult spot, rallying to miss by less than two lengths against better field. Draws 10-hole but classy type seems to be rounding into form and looks like the one to beat.
Race 13: As usual, a tough finale to Saturday's Pick-4 and I'll use the four who look the sharpest. They are (3) Timewell, (4) Galactic Star, (5) Western Deal and (6) Metro Lad. The best trip will likely take it.
