Catskill Steve offers his picks for the $10,000 Pick-4 at Balmoral Park on June 25, part of the U.S. Trotting Association Strategic Wagering Program.

Checking up on “Catskill” Steve: Wednesday a familiar story starting with a place finish in leg 1 then tabbing legs 2,3 & 4 with a $10.80 “top” winner in the final leg, Saturday racing was cancelled due to weather conditions and Sunday saw 2 winners and 2 place finishers. On to the new week.

Balmoral Park  Pick-4, Races 6-9, Wednesday, June 25, 2014

$1 play: 267/28/510/47 = $24

Analysis:

Race 6: (7) Ive Got The Key was used hard on the lead, weakened through :27.3 final quarter but didn't fade that badly. Gets in with small field and overdue 8-year-old may take them down the road. (2) Just Enough returns from Maywood where he raced wide from 7-hole before tiring. Is 0 for 15 on the year but gets better spot in big track return and has speed to leave for a trip. (6) Dots Bigboy had 9-hole over sloppy tracks at Hoosier in recent after facing Open Company in Florida. Makes Balmoral debut at greatly reduced level and must be considered.

Race 7: (8) Class Star broke while moving at the quarter last time after chasing better through fast miles prior. Draws outside but has speed to take these a long way with clean trip. (2) Mr Musclemania 3-year-old is at career peak right now going down the road to beat similar over sloppy track and taking lifetime mark in the process.

Race 8: (5) Moon Bay Dancer has had speed on both ends in last two; may be set now. (10) Liqueur power brushed to the top before the half in the slop, had plenty left to hold sway against a few of these, including top one. Draws 10-hole and will need some racing luck; dangerous with any kind of trip.

Race 9: (7) Susan Sarandon comes off a series of strong miles the latest from 10-hole in local return. Filly likes this track and looks best in finale. (4) Casino Comp has missed almost two months since chasing better here. Qualified sharp winning by 14 ½ lengths in a time faster than she had ever gone before, finds a good spot and could be tough here.

Good Luck!
