Catskill Steve offers his picks for the $10,000 Pick-4 at Balmoral Park on June 11, part of the U.S. Trotting Association Strategic Wagering Program.
Checking up on “Catskill” Steve: I had 3 out of 4 winners (all odds on favorites that even the novice handicapper could tab) on Wednesday and 2 out of 4 winners on both Saturday and Sunday nights.
Balmoral Park Pick-4, Races 6-9, Wednesday, June 11, 2014
$1 play: 134/578/34/7 = $18
Race 6: (3) Carnoustie was used twice from 9-hole and didn't fade badly. Mare has been racing better in recent weeks and now gets best post in a while. (4) Liqueur has been overmatched in recent. Drops back in for a tag at a price she raced well at to start the year and finds a good spot to set up her brush. (1) Seekin For Glamour was claimed in Balmoral return last time while in raging form and rarely puts in a poor effort over this strip.
Race 7: (5) Vaporstar had been finishing strong at Hoosier before shipping to Balmoral last time where he finished well off slow pace from tough third over spot. Fits well here. (8) Trot Fudge Sundae draws 8-hole but comes a good placing against Preferred Company at Hoosier and races well here. (7) My Miss Caroline came off close to three years on the shelf to outgame lesser despite being parked past opening quarter and establishing a lifetime best mark. Mare is now an unbelievable 16 for 17 lifetime and continues to defy logic.
Race 8: (3) Richard Traci drops in for a tag in second start for new barn and has been chasing torrid miles in recent. (4) Come N Bet It can finish fast and is capable of rolling by late if anywhere close to the top.
Race 9: (7) Sunset Dreamer probably should've tried leaving last week at even money but instead wound up with no chance closing off a slow pace. Three-year-old is 0 for 13 careerwise and has burned plenty of money in recent weeks but seems to have the most upside of any in here and may be set for best.
