Catskill Steve offers his picks for the $20,000 Pick-4 at Balmoral Park on April 12 part of the U.S. Trotting Association Strategic Wagering Program.

Balmoral Park  Pick-4, Races 10-13, Saturday, April 12, 2014

 $1 play: 14/69/24/36= $16

Analysis:

Race 10: (4) Rhombus was in tough in first start off the bench but did manage a :55 middle half followed by :27.4 final quarter, takes a sharp drop and figures to be tighter off that mile. (1) Holdingallthecards was parked past the quarter before settling into the pocket, chased a fast final half and did well to miss by a length in second try since last October. Gets the rail and figures to be tough.

Race 11: (9) Ice Scrapper comes off a solid speed try against tougher in Balmoral return for barn that he raced well in last year. Switches to Casey and can overcome 9-hole against competitive group. (6) Best Man Hanover chased top one from the pocket but lacked a late rally last time. Two back brushed to the top but faded late after pacing a sparkling 1:22.2 final three quarters. Six-year-old had a solid year in 2013 and may be set now for Hall Of Famer Magee who always seems to place his drives well.

Race 12:  (2) Im A Dan Fool had 7-hole, power brushed to the top with :27.4 second quarter, yielded and bottomed out chasing :27.2 third panel; did well to miss by less than three lengths. Two back was an explosive :56.2 final half rally to beat this type. Lightly raced 4-year-old seems much improved since returning to Willis barn and should be a handful from better spot. (4) Ricky Bobbie is another improving four-year-old who made it two straight last time beating these with strong stretch rally after being parked past opening quarter.

Race 13: (3) Misschipbyart has been racing in sharp form since switching to the mile track and looks equally tough on or from off the pace. (6) Liqueur had steady rally from tough spot closing with :56.3 final half off slow early pace. Figures to be a factor here.

Good Luck!
