Last call for March 15 stakes payments

The March 15 deadline is drawing near for many stakes payments. Below are a list of notices that have been submitted to the USTA Newsroom.

Red Mile sustaining payments and nominations due March 17

Lexington, KY --- The March payments for several Red Mile Grand Circuit races must be postmarked by Monday (March 17).

These payments include several sustaining payments for 3-year-olds including:

  • Bluegrass #39 (est. $200,000): The Red Mile on Sept. 27 (pacers) and Sept. 28 (trotters)
  • Kentucky Futurity #122 (est. $600,000) and Filly Futurity (est. $350,000): The Red Mile on Oct. 5
  • Tattersalls (est. $600,000) and Glen Garnsey (est. $350,000): Red Mile on Oct. 4

There are several payments due for 2-year-olds:

  • Bluegrass #40 (est. $400,000 colt pace, $350,000 colt trot and $300,000 filly pace and trot): Raced at The Red Mile on Sept. 25 (2-year-old filly trot), Sept. 26 (2-year-old filly pace and colt trot) and Sept. 27 (2-year-old colt pace)
  • International Stallion Stakes #112 (est. $400,000 colt pace and $300,000 all others): Raced at The Red Mile on Oct. 2 (2-year-old filly trot), Oct. 3 (2-year-old filly pace and colt trot) and Oct. 4 (2-year-old colt pace)
  • 2015 Kentucky Futurity #123, Tattersalls and Glen Garnsey

Additionally, nominations for the Allerage Farm Series are also due. The Open divisions are part of the TVG Series. The mare divisions of the Allerage Farm Series are also due.

Allerage Farm Open Trot and Pace (est. $10,000 elimination, $180,000 final): Raced at The Red Mile on Sept. 28 (elim) and Oct. 5 (final). Allerage Farm Mare Trot and Pace (est. $75,000): Raced at The Red Mile on Oct. 5.

The nominations for the Moni Maker for 3-year-old filly trotters and Nadia Lobell for 3-year-old filly pacers (both est. $175,000), to be raced at Hoosier Park on Oct. 31, will also be due.

March payment deadline for all Hambletonian Society-serviced stakes approaching

Cranbury, NJ --- March sustaining and nominating payments for Hambletonian Society stakes events are due Saturday (March 15) and per USTA Rule 12 section 4, must be postmarked by midnight on Monday (March 17).

Changes to the March 15 payment schedule include an increase in the Breeders Crown future eligibility payment from $350 to $500 and the first of three payments for a pair of $100,000 (est.) open events for both gaits at Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway.

The Hambletonian Society services 137 of harness racing’s richest and most prestigious events and provides one-stop shopping for your staking needs. The website www.Hambletonian.org contains all the tools and information necessary to stake your horse yourself. 

All forms are available on the website and are PDF fillable. A complete list of the stakes, along with race conditions, payment forms and much more information are now available online, as well as eligibility lists for races that had a final payment on Feb. 15.

Prix D’Ete nominations due March 17

Trois-Rivieres, PQ --- The Quebec Jockey Club would like to remind all concerned that the nominations for the Prix D’Ete, the richest pacing event for 4-year-olds in North America this year, are due by March 15.

But, according to the rule 159 of Regie des alcools, des courses et des jeux (Quebec racing commission), “when the closing date for nominations or payment of sustaining fees is a Saturday or non-juridical day, it shall be postponed to the following juridical day.”

The Prix D’Ete will be raced on Sept. 21 at Hippodrome 3R with a guaranteed purse of C$200,000 in the final and C$50,000 in the consolation.

Northfield reminds horsemen of March 15 stake payments

Northfield, OH --- Battle of Lake Erie ($1,000) and Hard Rockin’ Claiming Series ($100) payments are due by March 15.

Since the 15th falls on a Saturday this year, payments postmarked by Monday (March 17) will be accepted.

FSBOA stake payments due by March 15

Pompano Beach, FL --- FSBOA stake payments are due by March 15, for 2-year-old Florida breds: FL Breeders Stake ($100), FL Stallion Stake ($100), Sunshine State Stake ($50) and Melvyn Aylor Memorial ($150).

Since the 15th falls on a Saturday this year, payments postmarked by Monday (March 17) will be accepted.

March 15 payments due in Maryland

Union Bridge, MD --- Two-year-old payments (foals of 2012) are due to the Maryland Standardbred Fund and the Maryland Sire Stakes on March 15.

As per regulation we will accept a postmark of Monday (March 17) since the payment date falls on a weekend.

This payment must be made to maintain eligibility.

All staking forms, race dates and stallion pedigrees are now available online. Please use our website for all your current MSRF info and any updates as they become available.

We recommend that all payments be sent by certified mail. Please use the following address: Maryland Standardbred Race Fund, P.O. Box 540, Union Bridge, MD 21791.

Stakes payments for Delaware (OH) events due March 15

Delaware, OH --- Two-year-old sustaining payments for the 70th edition of the Little Brown Jug ($500), the 45th Jugette ($400), the 63rd Old Oaken Bucket (3-year-old open trot-$300) and the 64th Buckette (3-year-old filly trot-$200) are due March 15. These payments are for foals of 2012 and will be raced in 2015.

Sustaining payments are also due for the 75th Standardbred 2-year-old colt ($400) and filly stakes ($300) for foals of 2012 to be raced in 2014.

The $400,000 (est.) Ohio Breeders Championships now require a single $300 nomination payment due March 15, with no further sustaining payments required. The Delaware Open series is also going with the single $150 nominating payment due March 15.

Finally, the late nomination fee of $500 for the Winbak Farm Pace for 4-year-olds and up to be contested on Sept. 18, is due March 15.

DSBF 2-year-old March 15 payments due

Dover, DE --- A $100 sustaining payment is due for Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund eligible 2-year-olds who were nominated as a yearling in 2013.

If the 2-year-old wasn’t nominated, a late fee of $350 is due plus the regular sustaining fee of $100.

Payments should be postmarked by March 15 and it is strongly advised to use mail with a tracking number.

Nomination deadline for Dayton Derbies is March 15

Dayton, OH --- Nominations for a pair of new Grand Circuit races at the brand new Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway's five-eighths-mile oval this Fall are due March 15.

The open events for 4-year-old and up pacers and trotters, presently named the Dayton Pacing Derby and the Dayton Trotting Derby, have purses estimated at $100,000 in the track’s inaugural season in southeast Ohio. The races are scheduled for Friday night (Oct. 24).

The Hambletonian Society is servicing these new events and complete conditions can be found at their website. The March 15 nominating fee of $500 can be sent to: The Hambletonian Society, 109 South Main St., Suite 18, Cranbury, NJ 08512-3176.

-- Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway

Meadowlands payments due

East Rutherford, NJ --- The Meadowlands management is reminding horsemen that a number of Meadowlands stakes have sustaining payments due by March 15. However, since the 15th falls on a Saturday this year, payments postmarked by Monday (March 17) will be accepted.

Also, the Meadowlands Pace for foals of 2012 requires a 2-year-old nomination payment of $400 due by March 15 to make those horses eligible to race in the 2015 Pace. This 2-year-old payment will permit a 30 percent reduction to the sustaining payments required next year at age three to continue eligibility to the Pace.

March payments due for Indiana stakes

Indianapolis, IN --- Saturday (March 15) is the nomination payment deadline for Indiana Sires Stakes (3-year-olds and older), Indiana Sired Fair Circuit (3-year-olds), Maple City Trot (3-year-old pacers), Classic Pace (3-year-old trotters) and Indiana Sired Late Closers IS-1 through IS-8.

Since the payment deadline of March 15 falls on a Saturday, payments must be postmarked no later than March 17 in order to nominate your horse(s) to these events.

Conditions, schedules and nomination forms for these events can be found on the Indiana Horse Racing Commission website at www.in.gov/hrc. Click on Standardbred Breed Development and then Indiana race events.

Tioga, Vernon payments due

Nichols, NY --- Tioga and Vernon Downs management is reminding horsemen that stakes administered by those tracks have nomination and sustaining payments due by March 15. However, since the 15th falls on a Saturday this year, payments postmarked by Monday (March 17) will be accepted.

Those payments include the Empire Breeders Classic sustaining payments on the foals of 2012 that will race as 3-year-olds this year, nomination payment for this year’s 2-year-olds to race in the 2105 edition and stallions that bred mares in New York during the 2012 season to make their foals of 2013 eligible to the 2016 race.

The Kindergarten Trotting Classic for freshmen in 2014 and the complete slate of stakes for older horses also have a March 15 nomination.

WEG’s March 17 stakes payments approaching

Toronto, ON --- Nominations for Woodbine Entertainment Group’s major stakes events, including the C$685,000 (est.) Metro Pace, C$630,000 (est.) Canadian Pacing Derby and C$550,000 (est.) Maple Leaf Trot close Monday (March 17).

Also, 3-year-old Ontario-sired fillies have a sustaining payment for the 2014 WEG SBOA stakes events.

Two-year-olds have sustaining payments due for the 2014 Champlain Open and Champlain Fillies, as well as sustaining payments to be eligible as 3-year-olds to the 2015 Simcoe Open, Simcoe Fillies and SBOA.

If sending nominations by mail, envelopes must be clearly postmarked no later than the said due date or payment will not be accepted. Registered mail is recommended.

Ohio Sire Stakes nominations due

Columbus, OH --- Attention to all horsemen and owners: 2014 Ohio Sire Stake nominations are being taken now at the Ohio State Racing Commission office.

Nomination forms can be downloaded form the Commission website or can be requested. 2014 Sire Stake programs have been mailed out.

All 2014 Sire Stake nominations are due (postmarked) by March 15.

Pennsylvania Sire Stakes payments due March 15

Harrisburg, PA --- The Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission is reminding Standardbred horse owners that 2014 Sire Stakes payments for 2- and 3-year-old horses are due by March 15.

The first payment of $150 for the Pari-Mutuel Division and $25 for the Fair Division is due for 2-year-olds. A final payment of $500 for the Pari-Mutuel Division is due for 3-year-olds.

The Sire Stakes sustaining payment forms are available at www.agriculture.state.pa.us (search “sire stakes”) or by contacting Gary Heffner at gheffner@pa.gov.

Ontario Sire Stakes 2-year-old payments due March 15

Toronto, ON --- Owners of Ontario Sires Stakes eligible 2-year-olds are reminded that March 15 is the deadline for the 2-year-old OSS sustaining payment. However, since the 15th falls on a Saturday this year, payments postmarked by Monday (March 17) will be accepted.

Checks should be made payable and mailed (registered mail is recommended) to: Ontario Sires Stakes, 10 Carlson Court, Suite 400, Toronto, ON M9W 6L2.

Payments can also be made in person at the ORC office at 10 Carlson Court, Suite 14, Toronto, ON up until 4 p.m. on Monday (March 17).

Anyone who did not receive the sustaining notice that was mailed in mid-February, can download a blank form from the “Forms” section of the OSS website or just print the horse’s name and tattoo number on the front of the check.

SVCC nominations due

Marietta, OH --- Nominations for the 10 fairs in the Southern Valley Colt Circuit are due March 15. Since March 15 falls on a Saturday and many smaller post offices are now closed on Saturday and per USTA rules, nominations will be accepted if they are postmarked on or before Monday (March 17).

A one time payment of $500 (plus a $25 processing fee) will make your colt or filly eligible to all 10 fairs in beautiful southeastern Ohio. Or if you prefer, you may stake at any of the 10 individual fairs for $75 per fair (plus a $10 processing fee per fair). Each and every owner must also pay a membership fee of $35 which will allow the member admittance to each fair on race day.

The 10 fairs in the Southern Valley Colt Circuit are Wellston, Piketon, Athens, Zanesville, Rock Springs, Woodsfield, Caldwell, Marietta, McConnelsville and Old Washington.
