Donald Richards' family offers injury update

The family of Donald Richards, an owner, trainer and driver from Cumberland Fairgrounds, Maine, would like to thank the harness racing community for their support since Donald’s accident on Jan. 8.

Donald was struck in the face when the colt he was working with reared up while Donald was standing in front of him. The accident resulted in a traumatic face injury.

Reconstruction surgery was preformed on Jan. 13 and since then, Donald has been in stable condition.

We expect Donald’s recovery to be a long tough one, but the doctors are hopeful in a good outcome. He is aware of us and moves his arms and legs when asked. He is breathing on his own, but cannot speak yet. He has had a wonderful team of doctors and nurses caring for him.
