Howell, NJ --- Starting Jan. 21, a set of horseshoes worn by champion pacer I Luv the Nitelife will be auctioned to benefit the rescue horses of Horse Rescue United.
HRU is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in New Jersey that has assisted nearly 60 horses since March 2010, most of them Standardbreds.
"Our horses come from a variety of backgrounds," said Diana Tuorto, HRU Vice President. "Many are Standardbred or Thoroughbred ex-racehorses surrendered by caring trainers or owners. Others have been abused or neglected, or abandoned and may have nearly sold to kill buyers at auction for slaughter. One of our current rescues, Lucille A., made over $300,000 on the track and was a successful broodmare, but found herself on her way to an uncertain future with the Amish. She's now a brave, wonderful trail horse who is ready for a home and will be protected for life by HRU's contract."
I Luv the Nitelife is the world record holder for 2-year-old Standardbred fillies and was named the 3-year-old Filly Pacer of the Year in December. She boasts a record of 13-1-1 in 15 races with $1.2 million in earnings. She took a mark of 1:48.4 in the Valley Forge at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. She also set a two-heat world record of 3:42.2 in the Jugette. She swept the Fan Hanover, the Lynch, the Mistletoe Shalee and closed the season as strongly as she began with a win in the Breeders Crown and runner-up finish in the American-National. The set of two front and two hind horseshoes were generously donated by Chris Ryder Stable.
