Catskill Steve offers his picks for the $10,000 Pick-5 pool at Yonkers Raceway on Dec. 17, part of the U.S. Trotting Association Strategic Wagering Program.

Yonkers Raceway Pick-5, Races 5-9, Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013

$.50 play: 125/138/346/36/1 = $27

Analysis:

Race 5: (5) Missy Goldfire followed a strong qualifier with a parked out trip from eight hole at Harrah's Philadelphia. Returns to Yonkers at reduced level and looks tough if Brennan can keep her trotting. (1) Alternat Thursdays drops to best level, gets the rail and Bartlett sticks. (2) Rev It Now looks the sharpest of these right now and comes off a strong come from behind win at this level in latest.

Race 6: (3) Celebrity Stimulus had the misfortune of going first up against the streaking Howes Magic in the slop, gamely held show. (8) Ronan ships in off lifetime best mile at Harrah's Philadelphia. Knows his way around half-miler, gets Brennan and has speed to overcome eight hole. (1) Fifty Shades continues to race in sharp form and seems to like Yonkers. Tough chalk.

Race 7: (3) Dragon Ridge is a 4-year-old that was in career best form before getting parked out from seven hole, pushing hot fractions over sloppy track. Moves inside and can rebound. (4) Sleek Hunter made wide move to clear top one last time and finished evenly. Capable of big mile for strong Allard barn. (6) Stonebridge Cowboy is just 1 for 35 on the year but comes off three place finishes in Pennsylvania through sparkling miles and had a tough spot at this level in last Yonkers try.

Race 8: (3) Dallas Seelster is a 3-year-old Canadian bred that sports some nice lines north of the border before shipping to Harrah's Philadelphia where he did little in first start then had a tough uncovered trip in 1:53.3 mile in latest. Ships to Yonkers and should fit at this level. (6) Somewhere With You makes first start for Allard barn and adds lasix. Qualified in sharp fashion and has speed to be in the thick of it.

Race 9: (1) Ralbar had pace finishing from tough spot in the Yonkers slop last time following two sharp speed tries prior, one resulting in a win against lesser. Reunites with Bartlett who will likely send him down the road again.

I'll be taking some time off so this will be my last Yonkers version of Strategic Wagering for the year.

Merry Christmas and my best wishes for a happy, healthy and prosperous year in 2014!

Good luck!
