Panpero Firpo becomes 21st different Saratoga feature winner

Saratoga Springs, NY--Panpero Firpo (No Pan Intended) continued the year-long trend of a different horse winning the Open Pace almost every Saturday night at Saratoga Casino and Raceway.

Panpero Firpo (1) held off Bet On Roulette (3) and Whogoesfirst (8) to win the Open Pace in 1:57.4 at Saratoga.

On closing night, the 3-year-old Panpero Firpo became the 21st different pacer to win the Open in the past 23 weeks. Driver Jordan Derue was aggressive with the Jackie Rousse trainee and moved to the lead early in the mile on a snowy night in Saratoga.

The sophomore dug in in the stretch to hold off a host of rivals before stopping the timer in 1:57.4 over the snow-covered oval.  The race favorite, Bet On Roulette (Shawn Gray), was the runner-up in the $16,050 feature while Whogoesfirst (Jim Devaux) finished third.

The 2013 racing season is now complete at the Spa with live action set to resume on March 2, 2014.
