Catskill Steve offers his picks for the guaranteed $10,000 Pick-5 pool at Yonkers Raceway on December 9, part of the U.S. Trotting Association Strategic Wagering Program.

Yonkers Raceway Pick-5, Races 5-9, Monday, December 9, 2013.

$.50 play: 237/234/23/4/357= $27

Analysis:

Race 5: (3) H And M's Hit lacked a rally in last but takes a slight drop and retains MK. Trotter earned over $160,000 a year ago and has to be better than this level in anything close to right. (2) Celebrity Lovin put in a dull effort in local debut; capable of better with trip over track. (7) Elias Joy was parked to the half before getting to the pylons, held his ground well through :59 final half. Trotter put in some decent tries against far tougher in early autumn and could prove value play with these.

Race 6: (3) Whata Hotty had steady rally from 8-hole in fast trotted race, moves inside and can upset. (2) Quantum Confident beat top one among others in latest going down the road to easy win; remains sharp. (4) Abundasass had trot on both ends in much improved try. Figures to be a factor here.

Race 7: (2) Alfredsson was a game uncovered winner against similar in last, edge to repeat. (3) Fox Valley Yukon returns from Pocono where he left alertly from 7-hole before tiring in the slop. Two back wired slightly lesser here in fast mile. Chicago bred 5-year-old has some back class and may be coming around again. Possibility for “The Bomber”.

Race 8: (4) Handsoffmycupcake paced a :55.3 final half rallying from 8-hole in first Yonkers start since chasing Charisma Hanover in Lady Maud back in early November. Filly is 0 for 20 on the year but gets a better spot against a tough field and can handle them on best.

Race 9: (3) Waylon Hanover left in :28.3, finished in :28 to just miss in local debut. 7-year-old has enjoyed a solid season on The Philadelphia circuit and took a lifetime best 1:50.3 mile earlier in the year. Finds better spot to use his speed and is the one to catch. (5) Delco Rocknroll razor sharp 4-year-old was a strong two-move winner against some of these in last; seems the main threat. (7) The Bruiser draws outside but may go well dropping in for tag after some solid tries against tougher back in early November.
