Crete, IL --- Market Share wore down the leader Maven to win the $200,000 American-National Open Trot in a new track record of 1:52.1 with Tim Tetrick in the sulky on Saturday (Nov. 9) at Balmoral Park.

Market Share nipped Maven at the wire in a track record time of 1:52.1.

Linda Toscano trains the 4-year-old Revenue S-Classical Flirt horse, who last won his $600,000 Breeders Crown test at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. It was the 20th career victory for Market Share and gave Tetrick two American-National crowns on the evening’s program.

Uncle Peter (David Miller) had taken the lead to the :28 first quarter before yielding to the speedy Mister Herbie (Brian Sears). Maven (Yannick Gingras) then came flying first up, taking control of the race at the :56.3 half.

She continued to lead through the final turn as Market Share and Tetrick drew even with her. These two continued to battle through the stretch and Market Share then drew off in the final eighth of the mile to win by a length over the gutsy Maven. Mister Herbie finished third.

“He’s a nice little horse and he’s a great money maker so you can’t beat that,” Tetrick said. “I took a chance coming out but it worked out. My horse is real handy, and Maven is a great filly and she’s not easy to get by, but my horse is just awesome. I think he’s peaking at the right time.”

Market Share added the winner’s share of $96,000 to his already hefty lifetime bankroll of $2,763,011.
