Hanover, PA --- As of Oct. 21, Pennsylvania sired 2- and 3-year-old trotters and pacers have earned $37,056,780 (USTA data furnished by David Carr) racing at the three Pennsylvania pari-mutuel racetracks, The Meadows, Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs and Harrah's Philadelphia, in addition to the amounts earned at the 15 non-pari-mutuel Pennsylvania fair racetracks.
The amount does not include monies earned by Pennsylvania sired 2- and 3-year-olds outside of the Commonwealth in North America and throughout the world.
At a comparable time period last year the amount earned was $33,642,537. The 2013 earnings represent a ten percent increase over the same date last year.
Much credit for the distribution of this impressive amount of money being allocated to young Pennsylvania sired horses must be given to excellent cooperation between the two horsemen’s associations in the Commonwealth (the PHHA and MSOA) working in conjunction with the ractracks and the Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission.
The upcoming Harrisburg Sale beginning on Nov. 4 will feature 469 Pennsylvania sired yearlings, affording prospective buyers the opportunity to participate in the rich Pennsylvania programs.
