Columbus, OH --- Eugene A. Kirsch, 78, of Buffalo, N.Y., a former Standardbred and Thoroughbred race horse owner, died Oct. 17, 2013.
Mr. Kirsch was the father of former USTA Account Service Rep., former Isle of Capri Pompano Special Projects Controller and current race horse owner, Gene J. Kirsch.
"My dad got to do what he loved, racing horses primarily in Western and Upstate New York and Canada and was responsible for my interest in Standardbred racing," said Gene J. Kirsch. "I was there for his first win in 1975 and he was watching for my last win the day before his passing. Special thanks to driver Bruce Ranger at the Isle of Capri-Pompano and caretaker Marlene (of Sun Island) for making that memory possible. I got to tell my dad that this win was for him.”
The family also offers special thanks to trainer/driver Mario Dessureault of Pompano and trainer/driver Lon Rosenfeld and his wife for all the special times in between.Mr. Kirsch is survived by his wife, Georgiana; children Gene J. and Jacqueline (Kirsch) Phillips; and grandson, Chase.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday (Oct. 26) at Resurrection Roman Catholic Church, 130 Como Park Blvd., Cheektowaga, NY 14227.
