Catskill Steve offers his picks for the $75,000 Pick-4 at Balmoral Park on October 9, part of the U.S. Trotting Association Strategic Wagering Program.
Balmoral Park Pick-4, Races 7-10, Wednesday, October 9, 2013
$1 play: 3,6,9/2,4,7/3,8/5,6= $36
Race 7: (6) Judy's Hero is winless on the year but comes off a series of overland trips against better fields; adds lasix and will likely be charging late. (3) Yankee Vacation was shuffled back in last, slipped out turning for home and finished in :27.2. Finds good spot and picks up young pilot who has been making his presence felt since arriving in Chicago. (9) Martz Creek Perry returns from Hoosier and has been pacing consistently faster than any in here, post only knock.
Race 8: (2) Dee Dee Sage was impeded by breaker on first turn losing any chance, paced a :55.2 niddle half and finished in :28 although never getting close. Mare drops to the basement and is one of two with a class edge on these. (4) Sleazy Does It is the other classy type in here who tired in the slop after making sharp brush to the top. (7) Odds On Alpha followed a powerful Springfield qualifier up with an impressive wire to wire score against weaker despite being parked early from 9-hole. Is Oosting's choice over the 4 and may continue to move forward.
Race 9: (3) Fox Valley Sienna was parked pushing hot pace in latest before weakening, two back made strong recovery from early break and finished with strong trot, home in :27.2. Mare may have the most ability of any in here but gets owner/driver back in the bike which certainly evens things out and one must proceed with caution when including this one. (8) Classy Chassy victim of a rare poor drive by Oosting last time dropping back to 7th from the two hole at the half, making three wide move at three quarters and finishing alertly for show. Dangerous in field like this.
Race 10: (5) Fancy Free was overloaded with pace down the lane rallying from far back. Strong finishing mare finds a good spot to set up her kick and will be tough to hold off. (6) Fox Valley Isabela was overmatched in stakes event last time. Two back tried to flush cover at this level, didn't find it and was forced to go first up a long way off slow half, paced a :55.4 middle half and managed to finish in :28 to miss by less than three lengths in effort that's better than it looks. Capable of upsetting these.
