Campbellville, ON --- San Pail, a three-time Maple Leaf Trot winner and Horse of the Year in 2011 in both Canada and the United States, returned to victory lane on Monday evening (Oct. 7) at Mohawk, following an extensive layoff.

The 9-year-old trotting son of San Pellegrino, who was sidelined for more than a year with a right-hind ankle injury, captured the $32,980 Preferred Trot in his second start off the shelf in 1:53.1.
The 52-time winner led from start to finish for driver Randy Waples through panels of :28, :56.4 and 1:24.4, before dashing away from his rivals in deep stretch to score the victory by one length. Knows Nothing (Jody Jamieson) finished second with Catch The Dream (Sylvain Filion) third.
Trained by Rod Hughes for owners Glenn Van Camp and Hughes Stables Inc., San Pail now has $3,012,029 in career earnings. He paid $5.90 to win as the second choice.
