Yonkers Raceway Pick-5, Races 5-9, Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013
$.50 play: 236/45/35/4/45 = $12
Race 5: (2) Drive All Night had steady rally from eight hole in last following a strong front end try two back, just failing to hold on in fast paced mile. (3) Sfumato was facing tougher when last seen at Yonkers. Veteran sharpened at Monticello and now returns at reduced level and gets “The White Knight.” (6) Rock N Roll Star comes off a tough first over trip at Freehold after racing in sharp form at Philadelphia; has a class edge on these and looks to be a major player.
Race 6: (4) Easy Strength wired the field from eight hole in career best 1:54.4 mile at Vernon last time after chasing Open company at Saratoga prior. Mare is 16 for 54 lifetime and knows her way around half-miler, taking a 1:56.3 mark at Northfield as a sophomore; gets Brennan and looks best in race with no real standouts. (5) Adonis B had strong trot finishing from eight hole when returned to this level. Will be sitting closer to the front from this spot and appears the main threat.
Race 7: (3) Storm The Beach pulled the pocket to go first up in four-horse field at the Delaware, Ohio Fair, passed a 1:23.4 three- quarters but couldn't clear, held for place in 1:53.3 mile. Gelding chased tougher sophomores than these most of the summer in Pennsylvania and may prove fastest in here. (5) Charger Blue Chip has been racing in sharp form without winning, tough on or from off the pace.
Race 8: (4) Only The Lonely had strong pace finishing in one of these two back, then was ambitiously placed in the Little Brown Jug and did well to finish fourth in elimination, although not qualifying for final. Gets big class break in return and may have the most upside of any in here.
Race 9: Tough final leg as usual. (4) Political Desire finished evenly from similar spot last time, following a powerful finish to just miss from seven hole two back. The 7-year-old lacks consistency but is as good as any in here when on his game. (5) Canbec Fridolin has had eight hole in last two after chasing Open company three back. Gets first decent post at this reduced level and can show improvement.
