Catskill Steve offers his picks for the $25,000 Pick-4 at Balmoral Park on October 6 part of the U.S. Trotting Association Strategic Wagering Program.
Balmoral Park Pick-4, Races 7-10, Sunday, October 6, 2013
$1 play: 268/289/810/23 = $36
Race 7: (2) Financial Effort was used hard from 7-hole through hot pace against tougher, drops and moves inside. (6) Bp Giant Fool is 0 for 21 on the year but had tough spot last time and missed by only 2-1/4 lengths and had first-over trip in the slop two back before fading. Mare may be coming around again and could be live at a price. (8) Butterfly Kisser comes off a good speed try at Maywood last time following a wide trip two back. Filly was facing better when last seen at Balmoral before some no shot tries at The Duquoin and Springfield Fairs. Should fit well returning to the mile track and cannot be dismissed.
Race 8: (2) Wolfies Sportster finished with strong pace from difficult spot when returned to the claiming ranks last time, moves inside and should be well placed. (8) Larry's Place consistent 9-year-old moves into Smith barn while in sharp form and looks tough to beat, shooting for third straight. (9) Ive Got The Key has looked better in recent weeks and just failed to hold off the former last time - post only knock.
Race 9: (10) Fox Valley Legend broke making a second move on the rim chasing :29 third quarter. Prior were good efforts in The Su Mac Lad chasing the next to unbeatable King Mustafa in the final. Sophomore took a lifetime mark at this level in early September with a game uncovered mile and may be ready to get back in the win column with a clean trip. (8) Taxman has raced well for Oosting and comes off a good placing behind repeat winner.
Race 10: (2) Fox Valley Malone has been on the shelf for 7 weeks after showing a solid brush all summer winning 4 of 9 and finishing numerous races with sub :28 final quarters. Qualified back in strong fashion and is Oosting's choice over a couple in here. (3) Make Your Move made up 14-1/2 lengths through final half of Balmoral debut; looks like another sharp one for the Brewer's and finds a good spot.
