Ill Be There carried Emma-Jayne Wilson to a 2:02.2 victory.
Wilson and the trotting son of Kadabra led from start to finish through panels of :29.3, 1:01.4 and 1:33, before fending-off a late challenge from Riina Rekila and Harlequin in deep stretch. Charlie Tuna and Brittany Kennedy finished third.
Ill Be There, trained by Tony Montini is a nine-time winner with C$185,219 in career earnings. The 4-year-old is owned by Montini’s wife, Albina.
“I spoke to the trainer (Tony Montini) and we figured he’d be pretty sharp coming into tonight,” Wilson said following the win. “I kind of played it by ear to see how he was in the first turn and when I pulled the ear plugs he gave me a whole new gear. He was traveling along pretty well and responded very well when I asked him at the top of the lane.
“It’s an absolute pleasure to be here and to see all the fans and support,” Wilson continued. “It’s great to display to all the fans what a great sport we have and showcase something different.”
Wilson, a Sovereign and Eclipse Award-winning jockey, has more than 1,100 career wins to her name as a Thoroughbred jockey.
In 2007, Wilson became the first female rider to win the historic Queen's Plate when she guided Mike Fox to a memorable victory.
