Mosaique Face, driven by trainer and breeder Lutfi Kolgjini, was timed in 1:56.2f (mile rate) -- a new race record.
Kolgjini took Mosaique Face to the front after the first quarter and stayed there to win by a length, followed by Porthos Amok, driven by Björn Goop and Increased Workload, driven by Ôrjan Khlström; those two are both trained by Stefan “Tarzan” Melander.
Lutfi Kolgjini took his first win in a Derby as a driver.
The purse for the winner in the Swedish Derby was 2 million Swedish kroner or $300,000.
The victory was the first classic win in Sweden for Classic Photo, who now stands at stud in Finland.
The dam of Mosaique Face is the Italian mare Iona LB, an unraced Supergill daughter out of a Valley Victory mare. The maternal line goes back to international trotting champion Delmonica Hanover.
