Yonkers Raceway Pick-5, Races 5-9, Monday, August 19, 2013.
$.50 play: 1,3,8/3,5,6/1,3,4/2,6/3 = $27
Race 5: Weak opening leg and I'll go three deep and hopefully be alive. (1) Little King Cole broke early last time after making up a ton of ground two back trotting a :57.4 final half to rally up the passing lane for show. Gets the rail in third try for Saunders who hopefully will have him figured out. (3) Joeyscash hasn't done much in recent but those were against State-breds in stakes events. Does show a steady rally from tough spot three back in last non-NYSS event and now picks up “The White Knight”. (8) Hey Buddy Mac has shown the most of these in just 5 career starts but draws 8-hole and may be forced to be used hard early.
Race 6: I'm not giving up on (3) Glowing Fashion yet. Filly has yet to fire since arriving at Yonkers but has had a series of tough posts and been able to finish with strong final quarters while likely not being asked. Youngster had a solid freshman season taking a 1:55 mark at The Meadows and wouldn't be surprised to see her perk up with the move inside. (5) Glow Stick is the other getting major post relief here. She never got involved early from 8-hole in last and wound up finishing with :28.1 final panel to earn a check. Two back put in a giant try from similar 8-hole spot leaving for position then making second move uncorking a wide third quarter move and gamely holding show at 55-1 against lesser. Switches to Sears tonight who will likely be gunning her. (6) Zinderella had no real excuse last time giving way late at 9-5, but is capable of taking this group a long way again and must be included.
Race 7: (1) So Take That had little from 8-hole last time after chasing tougher through fast miles prior. 4-year-old scored at this level from similar spot back in July stopping the tele-timer in a sparkling 1:52.2 and, interestingly, is Brennan's choice over the 4 in here. (3) Southwind Chase has been next to unbeatable at this level and finds a good spot to showcase his early speed. (4) Rockndream was in tough last time and lost any chance after making early break. Two back was a good closing try against some of these. Makes third start for high percentage barn and figures to be charging late.
Race 8: 51-time career winner (6) Military Sitcom had steady rally from difficult spot last time; claimed out of the race by strong stable and now picks up Sears. (2) Coastal N is just 1 for 14 over two seasons but continues to race gamely and can't be eliminated.
Race 9: As usual, toughest Leg will again wrap up tonight's Pick-5. The three sharpest entrants will start from posts 6,7 & 8 and all three were claimed in their last starts. As is usually the case, any of a number of horses could take it depending on trips. I will cut down my costs and go for a bit of a price with (3) Cashendash Hanover who should get a quick pace to close off of and likely be close enough, from this spot, to make some noise in the late stages. Beat this level back on 7/1 with perfect trip and :27.3 final quarter, one of five times in past ten starts he's finished in faster than 28 seconds
