Balmoral Park Pick-4, Races 10-13, Saturday, August 17, 2013
After numerous close calls, I finally hit the Pick-4 on Wednesday night. The $1 payout was $363.40, which was nice but, as always, was expected to be a bit more. On to weekend action.
$1 play: 5,8,9/3/9,10/1,4,6 = $18
Race 10: (5) Rhombus, a strong-finishing 5-year-old, paced a final quarter in 26, rallying for show in solid Balmoral debut. (8) Fashion Delight had tough uncovered trip last time after a suicidal speed try past a 1:22 three quarters two back. Fast 5-year-old figures to be tough on or from off the pace. (9) Dabestleaderever is a consistent sort who goes a big mile every so often. Draws tough spot but could be dangerous if Leonard gets him into the race.
Race 11: (3) Old Man River had 8-hole in last with little chance, paced 54.4 final half. Drops to lowest level in a while, gets good spot and picks up Oosting who scored with him back in June.
Race 12: (9) Agood Time To Rock left for a spot from 7-hole, made second move to go first up, dug in gamely down the long Balmoral stretch to just miss. Continues to race well and may get to the top despite 9-hole. (10) Bet On Him disappointed in last following two good efforts after a year on the bench. Invitational pacer a year ago has obviously had some problems but now drops to the lowest of conditioned ranks and this could be the night he perks up if anything close to right.
Race 13: (6) Revolutionary had a solid wide rally last time. Two back left from 8-hole and tucked, was victimized by slow pace and lacked a strong rally finishing evenly through 55.3 final half. Remains sharp and is one of a number of sharp pacers that can take this. (1) Zall Good was a bit short off the bench last time after missing three months. Gets the rail and should be tougher this time. (4) Elkhorn Damien has been tough at this level in recent and is capable of taking this on the engine or from off the pace.
