Case in point: the Vernon Downs Food Bank Fundraiser.
On Saturday night, Aug. 17, the date of the fundraiser, the C.K.G. Billings Amateur Driving Series has two trots on the card, and according to the Billings Series president Tony “the Capo” Verruso, the Billings drivers are helping out in this worthwhile endeavor.
“The Billings has decided to donate all the driver’s fees from that night to the Food Bank Fundraiser,” Verruso said. “The purses for our two races will total $8,000, so our five percent donation will be $400, and that will give them a good start on the way toward their goal.
“We appreciate the opportunity to race there and it’s only natural that we should help them in a time of need.”
Of the two Billings trots that night one will be a six-horse field, to be presented before the wagering portion of the card starts at 6:45 p.m., ET, while the other, a nine-horse field, will be the third race on the wagering portion of the program.
Besides Verruso, former Vernon Downs Horsemen’s Association president, Lon “Deli Boy” Frocione, former Billings Series president Peter “the Past President” Gerry, along with current Billings Series VP Steve “You’re Never too” Oldford will be among the drivers participating on Saturday night.
