Jerry Foulk, 82, dies

Delaware, OH --- Jerry Foulk, 82, of Delaware, Ohio, died April 9, 2013, at his residence with his wife by his side.

He was born August 13, 1930, in Westerville, to the late Charles and Erma (Lebeau) Foulk.

Mr. Foulk worked for the State of Ohio, Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, for 32 years. He began his career as a guard at the Ohio Penitentiary before transferring to Lebanon Correctional Institution as training officer. He went on to work at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility as Deputy of Custody prior to working at the Correctional Medical Facility as Deputy of Custody. He finished his career as Superintendent for the City of Columbus men’s and women’s workhouses, retiring Sept. 1, 1981.

Mr. Foulk had a love for horses, horse training and driving, which he had done for more than 40 years. He owned Standardbreds since 1965, most notably Super Bandit, Super Stormy and CJ’s Super Secret.

He served in the U.S. Army in Germany for two years. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Westerville, Ohio State Grange, Aladdin Shrine, Sunrise Masonic Lodge No. 783 F & AM, VFW, the USTA and the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association.

Mr. Foulk is survived by his wife, Connie (Armstrong); sisters, Mary McDaniel and Marjorie Bevelhymer; brothers-in-law, Ronald Armstrong and Donald (Lillian) Armstrong; sisters-in-law, Norma Donathan and Gwenneth Armstrong; special friends, Tony and Melanie Williams; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews; and his little fourlegged companion, Hobo. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles; and brothers-in-law, Leon 'Ed' Bevelhymer and Gerald McDaniel.

Friends may call from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday (April 14) at the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, 1510 W. William Street at Valleyside, Delaware, with Shriner’s service at 6 p.m. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Monday (April 15) at the funeral home, with Pastor Chris Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, New Albany.
