Queens Or Better paced home for her third straight win. The 5-year-old is owned by the VIP Internet Stable of Piscataway, N.J., and is trained by Barry Langley. Tyler Smith has driven the mare for all three of her most recent victories. Queens Or Better was on the lead through fractions of 28.2, 57 and 1:26.2. She was one of four horses across the track at the wire, winning by a nose and stopping the clock in 1:56.4.
Friday’s triumph increased Queens Or Better’s (Dragon Again-Drawing Card-Cam’s Card Shark) lifetime wins tally to 12 and her career earnings to $42,890. Queens Or Better was heavily favored and returned $2.80 to win.
If wins keep stacking up, Smith could become the youngest driver in the history of harness racing to reach the 1,000-win benchmark. Twenty-year-old Smith started driving in 2009 and has since garnered 784 career victories and is approaching $4.3 million in purse earnings.
Smith has now jumped to the top of the 2013 drivers' standings. He started the evening trailing Chris Page by three wins. Page won one on the night and now trails Smith by three.
Smith has garnered 103 victories so far in 2013, ranking him as the fourth winningest driver in the North America. Only Corey Callahan, David Palone and Ronnie Wrenn Jr. have more wins this year.
