| Quick Deal set a lifetime mark with this 1:52.1 win in the lone Horse and Groom Series leg March 8 at Meadowlands Racetrack. |
Quick Deal, who made a break in round one of the series, made a backside brush, forcing Modern Family to come first-over into strong fractions. Turning for home, Quick Deal powered away while Modern Family moved easily into second and those two trotted away from the field. The 1:52.1 final time was a new lifetime mark for Quick Deal, who was driven by Yannick Gingras for trainer Ron Burke. The 5-year-old gelding by Revenue S is co-owned by Our Horse Cent Stables and Rossie Smith.
In other action, NY Yankees went a very quick mile, defeating favored Southwind Jazmin in a sharp 1:51 in the Fillies and Mare A-2 Pace. The A-1 Handicap Trot went to Opening Night who powered home off cover to score in 1:54.3. The 2011 Hambletonian starter was driven to victory by John Campbell.
Despite another rough day weather-wise, with snow falling until late afternoon, the Meadowlands total handle posted another impressive night. The $2,769,161 wagered on the 11-race program marked an increase of 15 percent from the same day in 2012. The Saturday 13-race card gets underway at 7:15 p.m.
