Lepennetier, known popularly as “P’tit Jules (Little Jules), won 1,268 races, most recently on October 7 this past year.
General du Pommeau was by far the best trotter he trained, and in five consecutive years he raced “the General” in the Prix d’Amerique, finishing first, third, second, fourth and fifth over that span.
Jules Lepennetier and General du Pommeau also raced in Sweden and finished second in the Elitlopp and in the Aby Stora Pris.
Lepennetier was survived by his wife and the couple’s three children, including Quentin, who also trains and drives. Per his wishes Lepennetier will be cremated following a service this coming Friday, Feb. 8.
