| Hasty Western (1) won for the third time in five tries this year |
Excitement prevailed in the winner’s circle following a 1:54.1 victory by Hoorayforthegray in a Delaware $10,000 claiming pace. A contingent of ladies, members of the winning owners, the Housewives of Delaware, got their photo taken. The group, made up of about a dozen housewives, chipped in last year to buy and race a horse. The stable has grown and the ladies always show up to cheer on their horses.
Something happened during the card that one does not see that often any more: In addition to gray Hoorayforthegray, David Miller’s White Liar, driven by Vince Copeland, came through the passing lane to become a second gray winner on the card. It isn’t often you see two gray horses win on the same card.
Ironically, both horses were sired by a non-gray stallion, Hoorrayforthegray, by Village Jolt, and White Liar, by Yankee Cruiser. And to top it off, driver Mark Gray had a winner GE’s Alex. It certainly was a “Gray-t” day.
Vic Kirby had three winners, while three others had two wins each -- Brad Hanners, Allan Davis and Ross Wolfenden.
Racing will resume on Monday after a time-out for Super Bowl Sunday. Monday through Thursday post time is at 4:30 p.m., eastern.
