MHHA awards $8,000 in scholarships

Augusta, ME --- On Saturday (Jan. 19) at the annual awards dinner, the Maine Harness Horsemen's Association gave out a total of $8,000 in scholarship awards.

The recipients of awards are Kayleigh Beckwith, University of Maine, majoring in Nursing; Colby Blanchard, Pace University, majoring in marketing; Emma Dempsey, Queen’s University, majoring in Biology; Jamie Freeman, University of Southern Maine, majoring in Nursing; Katherine Gray, Husson University, majoring in Nursing; Aaron Hall, University of Maine at Augusta, majoring in Business Administration; Alyssa Hamilton, University of Maine at Farmington, majoring in pre-vet/Biology; Lauren Hebert, University of Maine, majoring in Animal Science; Emily Marston, Kansas State University-College of Veterinary Medicine; Megan Orchard, Unity College, majoring in Conservation Law Enforcement; James Ramsdell, Jr., East Carolina University, completing his masters in Sports Management; Joshua Brooks-Ramsdell, Cambridge College, majoring in Guidance Counseling; Jessyca Rankin, CMMC School of Nursing, majoring in Radiology; and Jenna Wing, University of Bridgeport, completing her masters in Dental Hygiene.

The scholarship committee was once again pleased with the response for the fourth annual DownEast Harness Horsemen’s Association scholarship. After careful consideration of academic achievement and financial need, the 2013 recipient of the $1,000 scholarship was Emily Marston. Emily is a first year student at Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Emily and her husband, Robert Marston, resides in New Gloucester, Maine.
