Michigan governor vetoes the state's new Instant Racing law

Michigan’s Governor, Rick Snyder, has said he will pocket veto a bill recently passed by the Michigan Legislature that would have aided the state’s horseracing industry.

The pocket veto means he will not sign it and the bill will expire this week without becoming Michigan law.

Snyder, in a statement made through a spokesman, said he doubted the bill, which would have legalized Instant Racing machines at tracks, was constitutional without the approval of voters in both statewide and local referenda.
