Nancy Stockwell, 83, dies

Nancy C. Stockwell, age 83, who served as the bookkeeper for the Christian Harness Horsemen’s Association for 27 years, died on Dec. 11, 2012 at Grady Memorial Hospital in Delaware, Ohio.

Stockwell was born on December 12, 1928 in Sunbury, Ohio to the late Vernor and Alice (Liggett) Beacom. She was a graduate of the Sunbury High School, class of 1946. She worked as a bookkeeper for V&M Williamson Chevrolet and the Delaware Mutual Insurance Co., in addition to her post with the CHHA. She also faithfully served as a caring pastor's wife, loving mother and “grandmother extraordinaire.”

Stockwell was survived by her husband of 62 years, Weldon Stockwell. They were married Oct. 22, 1950, in her parent's home. Other survivors include the couple’s son Mark (Cindy) Stockwell of Sunbury; daughter Kathy (Jim) Gorsuch of Sunbury; grandchildren Jennifer and Brody Stockwell; sister Jean Marshall of Marengo, Ohio; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Friends may call on Thursday, Dec. 13, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., eastern at the Devore-Snyder Funeral Home, St. Rte. 3 at Rte. 61, in Sunbury. A graveside service will be conducted on Friday, Dec. 14, at 11 a.m. in the Trenton Cemetery with Pastor Bryan Grove officiating.
