Norwood, MA --- Today, Wednesday, May 4, 2011, marked the 12th consecutive year that the Kentucky Derby drawing was held at the Plainridge Racecourse, with a nice crowd on hand to wager on today`s races -- and also hoping that their ticket might be one of the lucky numbers drawn.

The management of Plainridge Racecourse has sponsored this charity event since the track opened in 1999. The COO Gary Piontkowski and general manager Stephen O`Toole have been the backbone of this charity event, and again it was a very successful, with more than 20,000 tickets sold.

The winners of the event were:

Fifth Place: $100 winning bet -- Dave Gagne Plainville Mass.
Fourth Place: $200 winning bet -- Sonny Hulbert, Branchville, N.J.
Third Place: $500 winning bet -- Vince Wilfork, Plainville, Mass.
Second Place: $1,500 winning bet -- Robert & Bonnie Roth Gardner, N.Y.
Grand Prize Winner: $4,000 winning bet -- Steven Lewis Jamaica, N.Y.

New York was the luckiest state of all, with the top two prize winners from the Empire State, and they were purchased through the Harness Racing Museum.

The winners have already been informed of their good fortune. and the third place winner is New England Patriots player Vince Wilfork, whose charity, the "Vince Wilfork Diabetes Foundation," will certainly take a “defensive stand” to win as much money as possible.

Other charities and non-profit organizations involved with the event include the New England Amateur Harness Drivers Association, American Credit Counseling, The Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame of Goshen, N.Y., The Harness Horse Youth Foundation, the New England Harness Writers Association, the Plainville Athletic Club and the Plainville Lions Club.
