Columbus, OH --- Members of a group called Citizens Against a Bad Deal – No Racino, have forced the city of Biddeford, Maine to call a general meeting on the proposed Biddeford Downs racino project for Monday, Oct. 25.

According to a story on, Dennis Rioux, chairman of the city’s Conservation Commission and a member of Citizens Against a Bad Deal, the purpose behind the general meeting is for opponents of the $125 million racino project to set the agenda and speak without interruption or being gaveled down by Mayor Joanne Twomey.

The story added that while the two sides are in fundamental disagreement about whether the racino -- a harness racing, slot machine and hotel facility to be developed by Scarborough Downs and Ocean Properties, Ltd. -- will ultimately be good for the city, all are in agreement it will have a major impact on Biddeford’s future.
