Columbus, OH --- Charles H. Sundeen, 77, of Geneseo, Ill., died March 1, 2010 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Geneseo.
Mr. Sundeen was born May 18, 1932 in Rock Falls, Ill., the son of Frank O. and Myrtle D. (Druva) Sundeen. He was a 1950 graduate of Geneseo High School and married Joy Cochran on June 14, 1952 in Geneseo. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Mr. Sundeen was employed at John Deere Harvester Forge Shop for 25 years until his retirement. He farmed in rural Geneseo for many years as well. As a youth he was active in 4-H and showing livestock. He was also actively involved in stock car racing after high school for the Quad City Devil Drivers.
He was a member of the Illinois Harness Horsemen’s Association and the USTA. He raced Standardbreds all across the U.S. for over 40 years. He was also a member of the UAW and a lifetime member of the Geneseo VFW.
Mr. Sundeen is survived by his wife, Joy; three daughters, Megan, Cheryl and Julie (Royce) Green; son, Jace; four grandchildren, Jerry Charles (JC) Austin, John Austin, Ethan and Evan; two sisters, Betty (Rollin) Heller and Mary Jane Coverdill; and two brothers, Donny Klemmer and Buddy Bryant. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
A time of sharing memories and stories will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 4, at Vandemore Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Geneseo. Visitation will be from 5-6 p.m. Military Honors will be accorded by the Don Cherry VFW Post #5083 following the services. Per his request cremation rites have been accorded. Private interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo.
