More than a dozen Standardbreds competed Sept. 22 in the Great Frederick Fair's second annual All Standardbred Horse Show.

"The Great Frederick Fair is proud to host the All Standardbred Horse Show," said Jacqui Nigh, the fair's sponsorship and marketing director. "What a wonderful way to showcase Standardbreds after their racing careers have ended. It is a natural progression to our commitment to keeping live racing at our facility as a year-round training center and to exhibit to the public during our annual Fair. What a great turn-out this year, the class size was up, the horses looked amazing."

The show included more than 20 classes, including halter, English pleasure, western pleasure and hunter under saddle among others. The former racehorses were also able to showcase their speed in a trio of timed game classes.

Participants included a number of former racetrack standouts, including Game Day p,4,1:50.1z ($225,368), Wynnfield Flash p,5,1:51 ($420,124), Double Bundy 1:54.3 ($245,336) and Big Bikkies 3,1:52.1 ($201,014) among others.

While the horse show kicked off the day's events, the fair also hosted several races and a Racing Under Saddle exhibition on Sept. 22.
